MSAE Member Spotlight

Maria Davis, CMP

Tell us who you are, where you work and what your title is.
I am originally from the Philippines and moved to the United States in 1995. This year is my 30th year in the Meetings and Hospitality Industry (I started when I was 5 – Ha!). I joined Missouri REALTORS as Director, Meetings and Partner Relations in 2014 and very much enjoy my affiliation with this association due to the wonderful support from our Leadership, Members, Sponsors, and internal staff. Although our Headquarters is located in Columbia, MO, I work out of our Lobbying office in Jefferson City, MO. To learn more about the biggest trade association in the great State of Missouri, visit www.missourirealtor.org

How long have you been a member of MSAE?
I have been a member for 13 years (6 years as an Associate Member and 7 years as a Regular Member).

What do you value the most from MSAE?
I find great value in the connections that I make with Regular and Associate Members on a professional and personal level. The Education the association provides allows me to stay in touch with current issues. Our world is rapidly changing that now more than ever we need to help and learn from each other in order to quickly adapt to our changing professional environment. In these times especially, the personal connections also serve as an important network in order to remain hopeful for the future of our Meetings and Hospitality Industry.

What would you tell others about MSAE?
Years ago, before joining the Kansas City Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), my boss said to me, “Don’t just be a member, be an ACTIVE member.” I definitely took this to heart since I went on to be in a variety of committees, took on a Board role, became Editor of the chapter’s online newsletter, and was awarded Supplier of the Year and Committee Chair of the Year. But most importantly, I gained so many new friends, connections, and mentors in a country where I didn’t know anyone and no one knew me. MSAE is very similar. It is comprised of members who are willing, ready, and able to help it’s fellow-MSAE members. There is so much information exchange that takes place between its members. By volunteering and reaching out, you will definitely get so much more in return.

What are your hobbies/interests?
I enjoy trying new restaurants/cuisines, exploring new destinations, Android photography, and cooking (made possible by Instapot lol). And, since I live in the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks, my family and I enjoy Boating and checking out the large variety of Lake bar/restaurants available in the area.

What is your favorite place to visit in Missouri?
There are some beautiful places in Missouri, but currently, we really enjoy spending time at our place at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Anne Fehr

Tell us who you are, where you work and what your title is.
My name is Anne Fehr. I am the Executive Director for the Missouri Chiropracitc Physicians Association. www.mcpachiro.org
How long have you been a member of MSAE?
I joined MSAE 7 years ago when I became an Executive Director.

What do you value the most from MSAE?
MSAE’s networking opportunities are invaluable. Thanks to the connections and friendships I have made through MSAE, I know the people working at our event properties, the CVBs, and other properties around the state. I feel that this has become a safety net for my association when we submit RFPs or run into the inevitable issues that come with event planning. Through MSAE I also have several other association executives I consider friends to ask advice from and commiserate with.  I love having these people available to text or go grab a drink with to share a win or to bounce ideas or issues off of.

What would you tell others about MSAE?
I strongly believe that every association employee can benefit from an MSAE membership. I have always had a least one valuable takeaway from every MSAE event I have been a part of. I have either met someone new, gotten to know someone better, or learned a crucial bit of information that made me more effective or efficient at my job. I believe our biggest recruiting tool is our members. If it wasn’t for my working with an MSAE Past President when I got back into working as an association and learning how critical it was for me to join MSAE, I might have overlooked ever joining. We need more advocates like him to help ensure the future of MSAE.

What are your hobbies/interests?
I love to cook and try new recipes and cuisines that I can’t get in Jefferson City. I went to college in Mobile, Alabama, and try to get back to the Alabama Gulf Coast as much as possible to see several friends still down there. I’ve also am a huge Alabama football fan and am usually decked out in Crimson yelling “Roll Tide” on Saturdays during the fall.

What is your favorite place to visit in Missouri?
My family and I like to take state highways instead of interstates when we go somewhere and we get to see so much more of our beautiful state. I love to take a day trip to Kansas City to shop and eat amazing BBQ. Since I grew up in St. Louis, it’s fun to explore a city I haven’t lived in. My favorite restaurant, Van Gogh’s Eeterie, is in Springfield, so I tend to find excuses to visit as much as I can.
